Here’s an interesting news snippet (Note added 9/18/04: this article is no longer available but there is another interesting interview found here) about companies using blogs to make money. I think that blogs are great for small business owners and also for those who are just getting started to feel their way through the online marketing maze.
Why? Most blogs can be set up for free. The only cost is your internet connection. Plus domain name registration and web-hosting if you want to host your blog on your own site.
You can earn income a number of ways:
1. Put Google Adsense on your blog pages
2. Write about a topic and promote affiliate products related to that topic.
3. Sell advertising - if your blog gets LOADS of traffic, then advertisers in your particular niche would be interested.
Note that all the above 3 strategies do not cost you anything in and of themselves.

We have been very displeased with Viux as our ISP. Their Control Panel has been difficulty to navigate and, until recently, was not compatible with Firefox (yes, an ISP that couldn’t make its own pages work with the second leading browser) Viux changed their mail service which required an entirely separate login and control panel from the main control panel. Then Viux changed their web traffic reports to yet another control panel, with its own separate username, login, etc. For the second calendar quarter in a row, when I went to report page traffic to a client company the statistics were not present and we were made to look inept. We may lose business over this one. (And BTW, our problem is “awaiting investigation after 3 days”).
For trouble free, reliable business service DO NOT use Viux.
